The question behind this page
I want a welcome board for my wedding. What size, what material, what should it say, and how much will it cost?
Key Takeaways
- A3 suits an akad nikah or a small ceremony. A2 suits a hall or outdoor reception.
- White acrylic is the easiest to read. Matte transparent looks lighter but needs a plain background.
- Write four things only: a welcome line, the names, the date, the venue.
- Acrylic does not warp or dent like foam board, so the board survives the day and can be kept at home.
- UMAKE price: from RM63.90. A wooden easel is RM7.90 to RM20.90.
- Order two weeks ahead. Production takes about two working days after you approve the design.

The Short Answer

Order A3 for an akad nikah or a small ceremony and A2 for a reception. Pick white acrylic unless you are sure of the background, and keep the wording to the welcome line, the two names, the date and the venue.
A welcome board does two jobs. It tells guests they are at the right door, and it becomes the backdrop for the first photos of the day. Both jobs need the names to be readable from where guests first see the board.
Our custom acrylic wedding welcome board is printed directly on the acrylic, with the initials added as raised gold mirror letters.
A3 or A2?
The right size depends on how far away guests are when they first see the board.
| Size | Measures | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| A3 | 297 × 420 mm | Akad nikah, registration, home ceremonies, a board on a table |
| A2 | 420 × 594 mm | Hall and hotel receptions, garden and outdoor weddings, a board on a floor easel |
A simple test: stand where guests will enter and look at where the board will go. If that is more than about three metres, choose A2. If the board will sit on the registration table next to the guest book, A3 is enough and leaves room for flowers.
Check the entrance too. A board that half-blocks a narrow doorway gets knocked over, so a smaller board placed well is better than a large one in the way.
White or Matte Transparent?

Both are 3 mm acrylic. They behave differently in photos.
| Finish | Looks like | Works best |
|---|---|---|
| White | A solid, clean panel. Text is clear in any light. | Almost everywhere. The safe choice for halls, hotels and outdoor venues. |
| Matte transparent (frosted) | A soft, see-through panel. Lighter and more modern. | In front of a plain wall, curtain or greenery. A busy background shows through. |
Why acrylic at all? A printed foam board costs less, but it dents at the corners in the car, bows in humid air and goes in the bin after the event. Acrylic stays flat, wipes clean and can go on a shelf at home afterwards.

The raised gold mirror initials catch the light and give the board depth. They are the reason an acrylic board looks different from a flat print in photos.
What to Write
Guests read a welcome board in about two seconds while walking. Four lines are enough:
- A welcome line. “Welcome to the wedding of”, “Selamat datang ke majlis perkahwinan”, or “Walimatul urus”.
- The two names. First names or short names read best. This is the largest text on the board.
- The date.
- The venue or the occasion. Useful when a hotel is hosting more than one wedding that day.
Optional extras are a hashtag for photos, or a short opening such as Bismillah. Keep the total under about twenty words.
Three things to check on the proof before you approve it:
- Spelling of both names, including “bin” and “binti” if you use them. Ask a second person to read it.
- The date and the day of the week. They must match each other.
- The order of the names. Families sometimes have a preference, so ask before you approve.
The programme, the seating plan and the menu belong on separate signs. Putting them on the welcome board makes every line too small to read.
How to Stand It Up
The board is sold on its own, so decide how it will stand before the day.
- Wooden easel. The usual choice. Our solid pine wood easel comes in three sizes; the large one is made for items 40 to 60 cm tall, which fits both A3 and A2 boards.
- On a table. An A3 board leans well against a flower arrangement or a small table easel.
- Venue stand. Many halls and planners have their own easels. Ask, and tell them the board size.
Outdoors, wind is the risk. Tie the board to the easel with clear line or ribbon at the back, and put a weight on the easel legs.

After the Wedding
An acrylic board is worth keeping. Couples usually do one of three things with it:
- stand it on a shelf or sideboard on a small easel;
- hang it in the hallway or bedroom;
- use it again at the second reception, when the two families host on different dates and the names stay the same.
Clean it with a soft cloth and water. Avoid glass cleaner and rough tissue, which dull the surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size should a wedding welcome board be?
A3 (297 × 420 mm) suits an akad nikah, a registration or a home ceremony where guests pass close to the board. A2 (420 × 594 mm) suits a hall or outdoor reception where guests read it from a few metres away as they walk in.
What should I write on a wedding welcome board?
Keep it to four things: a welcome line, the two names, the date, and the venue or occasion. A hashtag or a short verse is optional. More than about twenty words becomes hard to read from the door.
How much is an acrylic wedding welcome board in Malaysia?
UMAKE’s custom acrylic wedding welcome board starts from RM63.90, with a choice of seven designs on white or matte transparent acrylic. A wooden easel is separate, from RM7.90 to RM20.90 depending on size.
How early should I order?
Order at least two weeks before the wedding. Production takes about two working days after you approve the design, and delivery within Peninsular Malaysia usually takes one to three days more. The extra time is for design changes.
Does the board come with a stand?
The board is sold on its own. You can add a pine wood easel, or lean the board on a decorated table or a flower arrangement.
Can an acrylic welcome board be used outdoors?
Yes, for the day of the event. Acrylic does not warp in humidity the way foam board does. Fix it firmly to the easel in wind, and keep it out of all-day direct sun and rain if you want to keep it afterwards.
White or matte transparent acrylic?
White is easier to read in every setting and photographs well against flowers. Matte transparent looks lighter and more modern, but it needs a plain background behind it, because a busy background shows through.
